What are the benefits of competitive dance?

Dancing in either a recreational or competitive setting can be advantageous in many ways to people of all ages. You do not need to be young or talented to reap the benefits of this illustrious art form. There are four major categories in which dance can be beneficial; physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. The benefits associated with being a member of a team are also part of the competitive dance world, learning to trust your peers and work together. Competitive dance instils perseverance, responsibility and resilience and teaches the value of constructive criticism. With more performance opportunities there are also more chances to receive feedback from professionals in the industry and make connections. It allows our students to see beyond our “studio bubble” and experience the incredible world of dance. Dance is the epitome of, one of, the most fundamental connections we have to the universe. Before we can communicate with language, it is through movement that we learn to express our thoughts and ideas, emotions, and an understanding of the world around us. An expression of self that comes so naturally to children. When this movement is consciously structured , it becomes dance.
